I especially enjoy painting landscapes with something arresting about the composition. As an example, I like majestic views which show contrast between faraway mountain peaks, an enormous pine tree with sunlit soft needles in the foreground, and in between, a shimmery lake far below. I wish to convey and share the excitement or feeling I have in viewing a scene or a photo.

Strength in Fragility

Ballet dancers, animals and people are also fascinating to me. I love the lines of graceful Ballerinas. I feel captured by the expression and body language of animals as much as that of people. Using oil as my medium, I enjoy seeing how I can make fur look very soft, dresses look layered and fluffy, and a baby polar bear look playful.

Knut Says Hello

Mare and Foal

My current work is of a massive rock of a mountain. I have chosen to use the palette knife in this painting to show the layers and strength of the mountain. My choice of subject has grown from a love of the wilderness. Hiking in the mountains of Quebec, British Columbia and New England has provided me scope for my landscapes. A recent canoe trip in the Baron Canyon of Algonquin Park inspired me in ways that find expression in my painting.
