Sylvie (Meemah) Lauchlan

My motto: Art is another means to express what we see, what we hear, what we feel and what we think, were words are inadequate.

[ Version française ici ]

Born in Montreal, I have been involved in the arts from a very early age and reveled in drawing faces of people, capturing their individuality. As well, I have painted several backdrops for concerts and plays, where I performed in music during my own school years and then in those of my children.

Earlier on, I was primarily involved in the art of music. Drawing and painting were always on the threshold of my endeavors during that time, and I always felt that music and painting were so intricately woven into each other. However, I continue to hone my skills in various mediums and abstract styles but always incorporating faces somewhere.

Lately, I have become somewhat of an art activist for the preservation of our planet. Teaching art to children has given me a greater insight on the subject, as I truly believe we learn a great deal as we teach. I taught art in schools, and more recently I taught art as therapy at the C.L.S.C. in Pointe-Claire.

I am presently specializing in portraiture and have completed several commissioned portraits and have participated in several juried exhibitions, some of which are Stewart Hall, La Maison Trestler, Brownsburg, Chatham, Tudor Hall, Ogilvy, Arbour Galley, VanKleek Hill, Dorval Community Centre, Patelliste de l'est du Canada and Harwood Gallery (the latter of which I organized for our AHA group). I have also donated many paintings to charitable organizations. One which I regularly donate to is the Literacy Association.

In the past I have exhibited twice yearly at Womens' Art Society of Montreal, Beaconsfield Art Assoc., and am presently a member of the Hudson Art Association.
