Storybooks illustrated with watercolor pictures made for him by his father had a strong influence on John Vazalinskas during his early childhood in wartime Europe. John was inspired to draw, progressing from cartoons to painting in acrylics. A career temporarily interrupted his painting but, upon retirement in 1997, he started again, this time in oils.

“My works do not require lengthy or pretentious explanations. They are meant to be moments captured in time which, while intended to please viewers, should also tell them something about me. Nothing is more inspiring to me than seeing that a painting of mine has evoked a pleasant memory or brought a smile to someone’s face.”

John has attended classes at the Saidye Bronfman School of Fine Arts and has participated in various art workshops. He exhibits his work in Hudson with the AHA, in Montreal as well as in Eastern Ontario. His colourful, evocative paintings are in private collections across Canada, in the U.S.A., Europe and Australia.
