ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chantal Perreault was born in 1959 in L’Assomption, Québec. Her passion for painting manifested itself in her early years as she followed in the
footsteps of her mother who was also an accomplished artist. She began to teach herself to paint in her early teens where she began developing a personal style that would influence her work throughout her career.
She interrupted her passion to complete her studies in law (achieving a Master’s degree in civil law) and later became mother of two
children, presently 23 and 25 years old. She is currently President of the disciplinary committee for the professional Orders of Quebec and adjudicates in matters of ethics and deontology involving members of professional orders. In 2009 she was awarded the title of Advocatus Emiritus by the Barreau du Québec.
Her need for creativity drove her to develop her understanding of the techniques of the masters and she began regular study at the Araya Academy (now known as the Académie Cristobal) and has been studying under Juan Cristobal since 1999. In addition, she also benefited from the guidance of various talented teachers such as Viviane Roman, Pamela Carter, Eddy Dion, Humberto Pinochet, Sylvia Araya, Max Stiebel, Denis Jacques and Irena Korosec from Bohemiarte School and Gallery in Montréal.
She participated in many collective exhibitions and in 2006, did her first solo exhibition at the Musée Marc-Aurèle Fortin in Montréal. She has also given several workshops for the members of the Association des Artistes Peintres Affiliés de la Rive-Sud. She has experimented with pastels and water colors; however oil remains her preferred medium. Although her corpus of works include some still life and landscape pieces, she is best known for her powerful life
scenes and the stories they tell. Intense and authentic, she believes that life and love are her best inspirations.
